Perimenopause Is Having a Moment—But The Conversations Miss Some Key Points
Perimenopause is everywhere right now.
It’s all over social media, showing up in wellness circles, health podcasts, influencer feeds, and probably even in your group chat.
And honestly? I’m glad we’re talking about it.
For far too long, perimenopause was shrouded in silence, confusion, or dismissal. So yes—this moment of visibility is good.
But still… there are some big, important pieces missing from almost every conversation I see.
So let’s talk about it.
Perimenopause Is Not a Disease
There’s a common thread running through so many of these discussions:
That perimenopause is something to fight, treat, or conquer—like a disease or a dysfunction.
But the truth is:
Perimenopause is a natural, transitional, and inevitable phase of life for those of us living in female bodies.
It’s not a malfunction.
It’s not a failure.
It’s not the enemy.
It's a biological transition—just like puberty was—and how we move through it can be supported, understood, and even honored.
Symptoms Are Real—But They’re Not Inevitable
Hot flashes, mood swings, brain fog, anxiety, palpitations, menstrual irregularities, sleep disruption... Yes, these symptoms are very real. And for some, they’re deeply disruptive.
But perimenopause is often being talked about like it’s a guaranteed horror show. Like everyone is doomed to the same list of symptoms with the same level of intensity.
That’s just not true.
Everyone’s experience of perimenopause is different.
And more importantly: you can influence your experience—a lot more than you might think.
Perimenopause Doesn’t Just “Come Out of Nowhere”
Another misconception I see everywhere:
That perimenopause suddenly hits you, like a hormonal freight train, with no warning signs.
But in reality?
The signs are often there—years or even decades in advance. We just don’t always know what to look for.
Chinese medicine (and many holistic traditions) offer us tools and frameworks to recognize the early shifts and support the body through each stage—before it becomes a crisis.
When we learn how to listen to our bodies and understand the subtler changes, we don’t have to be blindsided by this transition. We can actually work with it.
Perimenopause Is a Portal, Not a Punishment
Here’s what I want you to really hear:
Perimenopause is a portal. It’s an initiation.
It’s not just about hormones—it’s about what our bodies are trying to tell us.
It’s about the parts of our lives, health, habits, and identities that aren’t working anymore.
And it’s about the kind of person we want to be and the kind of life we want to create for ourselves on the other side.
Your experience of this transition holds valuable information—if you’re open to pay attention.
And it be really disruptive, yes. I can also be a time of powerful growth, realignment, and deeper self-connection.

Perimenopause doesn’t have to be something we fear.
It doesn’t have to mean suffering in silence—or being at war with your body.
It can be a time of insight, healing, and transformation.
You deserve support. You deserve context.
And you deserve to understand what your body is trying to tell you.
All the best,
